Developed by Aaron Mattes, Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) is a dynamic stretching system for improving your flexibility and overall well-being. As you probably already know, stretching your muscles not only reduces your chance of injury but also strengthens your tendons and improves your circulation. Active Isolated Stretching is a specific method of stretching the body where we isolate specific muscles and specific parts of the muscle by asking the client to actively start the stretch and move to the end of their range. Then the practitioner moves the client a degree or 2 past the client's end range for a 2 to 3-second hold repeated multiple times for each muscle/muscle group. AIS stretches the muscles, increases the range of motions of joints, as well as strengthens tendons and ligaments but does not change the laxity of the tissue.
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.
Other modalities included in my deep tissue session: Orthopedic and Myofascial Release Massage techniques
Cupping Massage is the therapeutic application of cups designed to release and mobilize soft tissue restrictions, increase blood flow, facilitate lymphatic movement to reduce swelling and edema, desensitize regions of pain and irritability, reduce muscle spasms, release trigger points, mobilize scar tissue and adhesions and release nerve entrapments and improve nerve mobility. There are different kinds of cups, I use silicone and hard plastic cups. You can apply them on one spot for a length of time or slide them, there is a chance you will have cupping marks depending on the tension in your tissue and the application of the cup. After cupping there can be redness and raised bumps which will go away after a few minutes and sometimes you can have dark circular marks akin to bruising for up to a week. It is important to communicate if the cups feel uncomfortable as they can be adjusted to improve comfort during the session.
Hot Stone Therapy is a style of massage where heated stones are placed at specific sites on your body to deepen relaxation and promote circulation in your muscles. Muscles that are heated with these stones release tension and stress much more deeply and quickly than with a traditional massage. The overall experience is very relaxing, nurturing, and rejuvenating.
Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.
